About the CrossCulture Programme

The CrossCulture Programme (CCP) Fellowships 2027 is an international professional exchange initiative administered by Germany’s Institut für Auslandsbeziehungen (ifa). The programme strengthens civil society by enabling professionals and committed volunteers to gain international experience, develop their expertise and establish lasting professional networks.

Each year, the programme supports approximately 50–60 fellows from participating countries. Selected participants spend two to three months working with host organisations in Germany or eligible partner countries.

The fellowship focuses on professional learning, intercultural collaboration and the exchange of knowledge. Participants work with host organisations relevant to their professional interests, receive mentoring and take part in specialist development activities.

For the 2027 programme, applicants can explore opportunities in five principal areas:

  • Policy and society
  • Media and culture
  • Human rights and peace
  • Sustainable development and climate justice
  • Democratic resilience

The programme is intended for people already involved in civil society work rather than students seeking financial support for university studies.

Fellows are expected to use the knowledge, skills and professional relationships developed during the exchange to strengthen the work of their home organisations.

Scholarship Benefits

The CCP Fellowship provides financial assistance and professional development support. For participants travelling from abroad, the official programme page lists the following benefits:

  • Monthly stipend: €650 per month.
  • Round-trip airfare: Coverage of eligible return air travel.
  • Accommodation: Accommodation during the fellowship.
  • Local transportation: A monthly public transport ticket within the fellow’s city of residence.
  • Health insurance: Insurance coverage during the programme.
  • Visa expenses: Reimbursement of applicable visa fees.
  • Professional mentoring: Guidance throughout the fellowship.
  • Host organisation placement: Collaboration with an organisation within the CCP network.
  • Specialist training: Professional development activities related to the fellow’s area of work.
  • Transcultural workshop: Participation in a three- to four-day workshop.
  • International networking: Opportunities to connect with other fellows and professionals.
  • Alumni network: Access to the CCP alumni community.

The fellowship normally runs for two to three months, with programme activities scheduled between May and November 2027.

Funding is subject to approval by the German Federal Foreign Office. Applicants should review the official funding conditions and clarify any expenses that may not be covered before making travel arrangements.

Who Can Apply?

The fellowship targets professionals and volunteers who are actively involved in civil society organisations in eligible countries.

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Nationality and country eligibility: Applicants must satisfy the eligibility rules for a participating country. The 2027 application portal provides country-specific calls.
  • Age: Applicants must be at least 23 years old at the time of application.
  • Professional experience: At least two years of documented professional experience or volunteer work in a civil society organisation in the applicant’s home country.
  • English proficiency: Applicants must have a good command of written and spoken English.
  • Health: Applicants must be able to undertake an extended stay abroad.
  • Professional or voluntary engagement: Applicants should be associated with an organisation working in a relevant field.

Long-term community involvement, experience in the applicant’s professional area, additional language skills—particularly German—and existing or planned collaboration with an organisation in the host country are desirable.

Registered students are not eligible. The programme is designed for professionals and committed volunteers, not for applicants seeking postgraduate study scholarships.

The current 2027 country-specific application portal lists participating countries including Armenia, Bangladesh, Brazil, Colombia, Egypt, India, Indonesia, Iraq, Jordan, Malaysia, Mexico, Nepal, Pakistan, the Philippines, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Ukraine and Vietnam, among others. Nigeria is not on that published list.

Applicants must verify that their nationality and circumstances satisfy the relevant country call before preparing an application.

Step-by-Step Application Process

Step 1: Check the participating countries

Visit the official CCP application portal and locate the country-specific call relevant to you.

Do not proceed unless you meet the eligibility requirements for that call.

Step 2: Review the professional focus areas

Identify the field that best matches your current work, such as policy and society, media and culture, human rights and peace, sustainable development, or democratic resilience.

Step 3: Prepare the required documents

The official application guidance lists the following documents:

  • An up-to-date curriculum vitae in English detailing education, professional experience, voluntary work and relevant skills.
  • A recommendation letter from the applicant’s home organisation or employer, preferably from a supervisor, using the official template.
  • A recent photograph, which is optional.

Prepare all documents before opening the application form because the system does not allow applicants to save an incomplete draft.

Step 4: Complete the online application personally

Select the appropriate country call, complete the application form and upload the required documents.

Important: The official CCP application instructions explicitly ask applicants to complete the application themselves without using AI. Applicants must therefore write and submit their own application responses in accordance with this rule.

Step 5: Submit before the deadline

Submit the completed application through the official online portal. Incomplete applications, applications submitted by email and late applications will not be considered.

Step 6: Prepare for selection

Applicants will receive an email confirming receipt of their application. Shortlisted candidates will be invited to an interview with the Selection Board.

Final selection notifications are expected in March or April 2027.

Important Deadline

The application period for the CrossCulture Programme Fellowships 2027 runs from 19 October to 8 December 2026.

The deadline is 8 December 2026 at 11:59 p.m. Central European Time (CET), according to the official application portal.

Successful fellows are expected to participate in the programme between May and November 2027, completing a two- to three-month professional exchange.

Applicants should consult their country-specific call for any additional requirements and submit their applications well before the closing date.

Official Application Link

Read the eligibility requirements and the relevant country-specific call before applying. Applicants must complete their own application without AI assistance, as expressly requested by the programme.

Final Note from AK Travels LTD

The CrossCulture Programme Fellowships 2027 provide eligible professionals and volunteers with an opportunity to gain international experience, strengthen their expertise and build relationships with civil society organisations.

The fellowship includes substantial financial support, but eligibility depends on nationality, professional experience and other programme conditions. Nigerian applicants should note that Nigeria is not included in the current official list of participating countries for 2027.

The application deadline is 8 December 2026. Always rely on the official country-specific call and application guidance before proceeding.
