About the Programme

The Internship and Research Immersion in Singapore (IRIS) @ NUS is a fully funded research internship organised by the NUS Graduate School.

The programme welcomes exceptional undergraduate and Master’s students from all fields, including students from ASEAN countries and other parts of the world.

Selected participants join NUS laboratories or research groups, where they are mentored by NUS faculty members and contribute to ongoing research projects. The programme provides hands-on exposure to research facilities and graduate-level research at one of Asia’s leading universities.

The 2027 programme will run for two or three months between January and May 2027, depending on the selected research project and the availability of the faculty mentor.

Participants can explore research at different NUS faculties, schools and colleges. Applicants can review the available projects and indicate up to three preferred faculty mentors and research areas.

Who Can Apply?

Applicants must meet the following official requirements:

• Have a minimum overall or major GPA of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale.
• Be currently enrolled full-time in a degree-granting undergraduate or Master’s programme.
• Maintain active student status at their home university throughout the entire IRIS programme.
• Undergraduate applicants must have completed at least two years of undergraduate study by the start of the programme.
• Demonstrate a genuine interest in academic research.
• Be available for the full duration of the selected project.

Current NUS students are not eligible.

Students who graduate before or during the programme and therefore cannot maintain student status at their home institution are also not eligible.

Previous research experience is not mandatory, although applicants should demonstrate genuine research interest.

Step 2: Select Preferred Mentors

Applicants may indicate up to three preferred mentors and their research areas.

NUS states that mentor allocation depends on applicants’ research interests and faculty availability, so preferred mentors are not guaranteed.

Step 3: Prepare Your Documents

You will need:

• Academic transcript.
• Detailed CV of no more than two A4 pages.

IRIS @ NUS is a genuine fully funded research immersion programme, but applicants should pay close attention to its student-status requirement.

You must remain enrolled as a full-time undergraduate or Master’s student at your home university throughout the entire internship. Applicants who have already graduated are not eligible.
