About the Awards

The Global Citizen–PayPal Small Business Impact Awards were established to celebrate entrepreneurs whose businesses go beyond profit by making meaningful contributions to society and the environment.

The programme recognises businesses that create jobs, strengthen local communities, promote sustainability and contribute to achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Successful applicants will receive financial support and business development opportunities to accelerate their impact.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must:

• Be the owner, founder or CEO actively involved in the business.
• Operate an independent small or medium-sized business.
• Have an online presence through which customers can access or purchase products or services.
• Employ fewer than 50 full-time employees or generate annual revenue below USD 1 million (subject to local regulations).
• Have operated the business for at least three years.
• Demonstrate measurable positive impact within their local community.
• Operate within North America, Latin America or the Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) regions.

Franchises and businesses affiliated with national or international chains are not eligible.
